Absorber's for my engine in the making~

After some tweaking to the ECU and some secret electric controller(will told you later) mango's engine mounting cannot withstand the twisting force of the engine anymore and finally give way...  and the engine is rattling like hell whenever i try to launch my car from standstill, and whenever i try to spin my rear wheels in a corner.

And after much considerations for engine stability stuff~ i almost forgot what my expertise is. LoL~ Absorbers! So i can just make one and counter out the twisting force of the torque from the engine.

200lb+ of bounce and re-bounce force to hold my engine in place instead on try to tear itself off the engine mounting~ lol~ it's my first try though. Hope it would work out well~ (finger crossed)
hm~ think i should put it a little higher.

btw~ it's 3 weeks countdown to KGC track day~ and still got more to prepare~ GOGOGO~ aiming for 52sec flat track timing this trip. To broke my old 53.2 sec. One steps further~ (^.^)

cheerio~ happy prepping everyone.

A gift from Toyota~

Uncle in Ipoh found a 'relic' while cleaning his office desk. A key chain which toyota gives away with it's products.

It actually works in some way. lol~ the shaft of the miniature absorbers did retract into the body. ^^~

What's your color???

You can said we were too bored or just too mischief ~ XD~ Were working on something idiotic this afternoon. (just some small tricks my bro were doing to 'repay' McGuyver for painting his car's brake caliper awfully ugly~ ^^
enjoy the pic~ hahaha~

BTW, we only used cheap spray can color~ :P dun wan to spend too much for the little fun~
And the final layer was on~ XD

 Looks like candy floss~ nice~ yum yum~
 lotus???
He will be so shocked when he come and collect his absorbers~ XD wakakaka~

Progress~ progress~

Going to McGuyver's place this morning~ and saw his car were on stands all 4 corners~ he had taken out all the brakes and links for servicing~
And he slightly painted the rear axle (he is very picky on how the car looks
And set everything in for a new sets of absorbers for the front~
What else i would let him runs on? APM? Mando? NO~!!!! Surely it had to be a pure TKA breed~ lol~ Genuine Touge spec Special.Absorers.Modification absorbers from TKA~ XD~ (sorry for some self-AD here~ :P)
Well... as we were planing to use the slotted rotor which was taken out from my AE86's knuckle~ but seems like it won't fit on KE70's knuckle so idea abandoned~
We revert back to use the original KE70's brakes~ since McGuyver will still runs his 4K under the hood for a while, we think it should be able to deliver enough breaking power with a servo and pad upgrades~ And off we go to Penang island to pick up some 'nice' parts for his car~ ^^
All and all~ it's time to fill up the tummy for it's pass lunch time~ And~ we drove to the only Burger King in Penang~ about the location...... sorry i can't tell the places's name. Just let you know it's close to M-Power's shop and in between the sea and Jelutong highway~
Love their burgers but there's only one outlet in the island~ non off-shore around north malaysia~ (>_<)
McGuyver~ giving the 'what you wan?' stare~~~~ XD~
With a full stomach we set to the designated location we were heading~  My old friend Yus's place~ @Lorong KG Rawa near Volvo service centre~
And pick this bugger up(i had bought it actually)~ a AE86 T285 axle with a faulty LSD~ will try to open up later to check for the problem~ (though my true intension was to took the ring gear set to use for my Mango (^^) )
And after a few hours of chit-chat and going around a few friend's shops (also chit-chatting) and taking a hefty dinner @ Char Ling Park~ and we head for home ~  a tired but enjoy-able day....

*p.s. actually feeling a bit bad to had my bro handling the factory for a whole day (>_<) ~~~

Hi-Low adjustable - pillow mount style~

Something to share with you all ^_^~ An AE86's strut.
this is also the first time i saw the pillow-mount with hi-low adjustable.
though the adjustable length is only limited to a mere 1.5 inches~
but it's all you need to adjust while changing a quick setting during track day~ without needed to jack-up the car and take off the wheels ^.^ simply simplicity~

Suspention setting and caster-toe-camber relationship.

While i was looking around for some custom make pillow-mount caster arm, i come across this article :

taken from www.aeu86.org

Spring Rate Changes (def. important for those who dont pay att. to this)
Modification - Effect on Suspension

Increase front and rear rate - Ride harshness increases; tires may not follow bumps causing reduced traction. Roll resistance increases.

Increase front rate only - Front ride rate increases. Front roll resistance increases, increasing understeer or reducing oversteer.

Increase rear rate only - Rear ride rate increases. Rear roll resistance increases, increasing oversteer or reducing understeer.

Decrease front and rear rate - Ride harshness decreases; tires follow bumps more effectively, possibly improving traction. Roll resistance decreases.

Decrease front rate only - Front ride rate decreases. Front roll resistance decreases, decreasing understeer or increasing oversteer.

Decrease rear rate only - Rear ride rate decreases. Rear roll resistance decreases, decreasing oversteer or increasing understeer.

Antiroll Bar Changes (aka sway bar)
Modification - Effect on Suspension

Increase front rate - Front roll resistance increases, increasing understeer or decreasing oversteer. May also reduce camber change, allowing better tire contact patch compliance with the road surface, reducing understeer.

Increase rear rate - Rear roll resistance increases, increasing oversteer or decreasing understeer. On independent rear suspensions, may also reduce camber change, allowing better contact patch compliance with road surface, reducing oversteer.

Decrease front rate - Front roll resistance decreases, decreasing understeer or increasing oversteer. More body roll could reduce tire contact patch area, causing understeer.

Decrease rear rate - Rear roll resistance decreases, decreasing oversteer or increasing understeer. On independent rear suspensions, more body roll could reduce tire contact patch area, causing oversteer.

Shock Absorber Changes (aka your struts)
Modification - Effect on Suspension

Increase rebound and bump rates - Ride harshness increases.

Increase rebound rates only - On bumps, tires may leave track surface.

Increase bump rates only - Body roll resisted; outside tire loaded too quickly; car won't stabilize into a turn.

Decrease rebound and bump rates - Ride harshness decreases; car may float over bumps.

Decrease rebound rates only - On bumps, tires follow track surface more effectively; car may continue to oscillate after bumps.

Decrease bump rates only - Body rolls quickly; car is slower to respond to turn-in.

Troubleshooting Tire Temperatures
Reading - Handling problem - Reason

All tires too hot - * - Compound too soft for track and ambient temperature conditions.

Front tires too hot - Understeer - Front tire pressures too low.

Rear tires too hot - Oversteer - Rear tire pressures too low.

Inside edges too hot - Too much body roll - Too much negative camber or too much toe-out.

Outside edges too hot Too - much body roll - Too little negative camber, too little toe-out or too much toe-in or wheel width too narrow for tire width.

Center of tread too hot - * -Tire pressure too high.

Edges on too hot - * -Tire pressure too low.

All tires too cold - * - Compound too hard for track and ambient temperature conditions or car not being driven to limit.

Front tires too cold - * - Inadequate load on front tires.

Rear tires too cold - * - Inadequate load on rear tires

Solving Handling Problems
Problem - Manifestation *Solutions

Steady state understeer - All turns or low-speed turns only
*If front tire temps are optimum and rears are low, stiffen rear antiroll bar; *if front temps are too hot, soften front (most likely).
*If front tire pressures are optimum, decrease rear tire pressure.
*Increase if chunking occurs.
*Improper front camber.
*Too much body roll at front, causing excessive camber change.

Steady state understeer - High-speed turns only
*If front tire temps are OK, increase front downforce.
*If front tire temps are too hot, reduce rear downforce.

Steady state oversteer - All turns or low-speed turns only
*If rear tire temps are optimum, with fronts too low, stiffen front antiroll bar;
*if rear temps are too hot, soften rear antiroll bar (most likely).
*If rear tire pressures are optimum, decrease front tire pressure. *Increase if chunking occurs.
*Improper rear camber.

Steady state oversteer - High-speed turns only
*If rear tire temps are OK, increase rear downforce.
*If rear tire temps are too hot, reduce front downforce.

Corner entry understeer
*Front shocks are too soft in bump resistance.
*Too much front toe-in; use a small amount of front toe-out.

Corner exit understeer
*Rear shocks are too soft in bump.
*Front shocks are too stiff in rebound.

Corner entry oversteer
*Rear shocks are too soft in rebound.
*Rear ride height is too high (too much rake) compared to front.

Corner exit oversteer
*Rear shocks are too soft in rebound.
*Too much rear toe-in or any rear toe-out.

Straightline instability
*Tire pressure is too low in one or more tires.
*Too little positive front caster.
*Too much front toe-in or any toe-out in rear.

Straightline speed too slow
*Too much overall downforce.
*Too much toe-in or toe-out.
*Ride height is too hight.

Excessive steering effort - All turns
*Too much positive caster.
*Front tire pressures are too low.

Chassis or suspension bottoms
*Spring rates are too soft.
*Shock absorber bump rates are too soft.
*Inadequate suspension travel.
*Inadequate ride height.

Hope it can help setting p our TE/AE ^.^ cheers~
p/s: let me know if it does hit the point~

old school valve n piston

this is something we don't see everyday. i just repair one really rare type of absorber recently.
Original AE86's strut. really rare indeed.
It used really 'ancient' design -  simple, but would last, for a long long time.
the valve system. really give you the tough feels. it was really build to last.

New upgrade~! mono-tube conversion ^.^ !!!

Finally, new R&D had bring result! Conversion from mono tube system to stronger twin tube design was showing good result. This is the 3rd set i had been done since month. First was GTR-R34 front shock (convert from apexi N1), second was Wira-GSR front shock (convert from Hotbit) and this was the third, Wira-VR4-4WD Rally machine (convert from Kayaba Super Rally) upgrade from 12.5mm shaft design to 22mm shaft! design.

And it's painted in our TKA green ^.^ hohoho~

Rare Gab hi-lo adjustable absorber sighted~

After mango done his alignment at Pony's place, i went all the way to the end of the street where Poon Motor is shifting into his new premises.

While i dig through his pile of blocks+parts, i saw some unusual thing stuck-ing out under the pile. It was a old GAB adjustable (Japan's GAB suspension company, Wings Co. close down in 2002 so GAB had stop production since)
It's all the same as any GAB japan adjustable but with a special bolt on top of it's soft-hard adjuster.
it's a gas (nitrogen only please~ dun pump normal air) inlet which had similar inlet head as we use for out tyre tube. It's a really rare indeed.

Two time KG.Gajah Track day Champion in the house~

Finally, Beta version of my Track spec absorber using standard spring is done. The new TKA Motorsport Competition - Track Spec Absorber. So, as a starter, i manage to get our KG Gajah two time champion, Suhaimi to be the first person to test out the absorber.
The Official sticker for my new range of absorber, there's 3 more spec which cover from speedway usage and cornering. Kindly contact me for more detail ( Dennis 012-4806880 )

Our Champion's car pic in KG Gajah. Really nice looking and fierce.
Installing the absorber.
Running a 1.8 Mivec engine with stock interior. and a awe-some 3 layer full aluminum radiator.
slightly dented hood, he got himself in minor accident not long ago...
The absorber is in ^.^ and waiting the champ to test it on circuit, and sure, TOUGE yeah~
For the first round he tested around the industry area, he gives me a thumb-up, and giving a comment that it feels slight better than his tein type-hr. Will be waiting for his feed-back after testing them up at actual battle. till then ;)

Oddest Mod i had done yet....

After McGuyver found some left over asjustable spring and pillow mount from a AE101 dampers. He keep on bugging me to mod a set of absorber to match withgg the spring and borrow him for the up coming Kg Gajah track day. So~ after a week of non stop bugging, i finally gave in... T_T he is just so annoying.

This is how the final product look like.

it's so expensive to order a custom make hi-low thread cell, and it's only tempolary borrowed to him, so i just keep the original base and put the spring on it :P

the absorber had been upgrade to about 75 kg bounce and 110kg rebounce duty. and the stroke was shorten 2.5 inches to accumulate the spring thus reduce body roll.
